I'm still not able to connect. What can I do?

Check to make sure that the network name or SSID of the wireless network that you are currently connecting to is BDLibrary80211ag.

  • (Windows 98 or 2000) Run your wireless network software and confirm that the ssid or network name is "BDLibrary80211ag."
  • (Windows XP) Click on the start button then click on control panel the double click on network connections. Right click on the wireless network icon and select properties. Select the wireless networks tab and, under available networks, you should see BDLibrary80211ag highlighted.

Make sure WEP is disabled.

I don't have a Windows 2000 or XP running on my machine. How do I change the IP to DHCP?

See instructions on http://www.speed.net/support/ipchange/ to change settings for Macintosh and other versions of Windows.

What is DHCP and why do I have to use that?

DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Control Protocol and it lets you obtain an IP (Internet Protocol) and DNS (Domain Name Server) address automatically. If you have DNS or IP numbers that have been specified, those are the only ones that you can connect to. When using wireless, your card needs to be able to automatically scan for an IP and DNS to connect to our network. If you have "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain an DNS address automatically" selected in your TCP/IP settings, you should be fine. NOTE: If you use your connection at other locations, make sure to change these settings back to their original numbers.

What is happening behind the scene when I accept your Internet and Computer Use Policies?

Your MAC address (your wireless card's unique identification number) on your wireless card is being registered on our database.

What if I have more than one wireless card/laptop?

If you wish to use it at the library, you will need to bring it to the library to register your MAC address.

I have a bluetooth card. Can I stil use your connection?

No.
