Specific Search Strategies That Will Make Your Job Easier:

Find Similar Books :

Locate the title record of a specific book that was enjoyed by the reader. Click on the button at the top of the record, labeled "Find Similar Books." A list of subject headings relevant to this title appear. The reader checks all the subject headings that are either "desired" or "required" in a book. Click "search" and a list of titles appear that contain the requested subject headings. ( Example: A student enjoyed reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. She is interested in fiction about African-Americans who are "coming of age" and experiencing racism. By checking these desired subject headings, she will access titles such as The Road to Memphis by Mildred D. Taylor, White Lilacs by Carolyn Meyer, and many others).

Describe a Plot, Topic or Unit

Sometimes it is difficult for students to articulate their reading needs in appropriate search language. With the Describe a Plot, Topic or Unit feature, they can use their own natural language to search for books.

( Example: A student is required to find a book about the Vietnam War from a teenager's point of view. By typing "teenagers during the Vietnam War" in the search box, he will access a list of titles such as Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers, The Road Home by Ellen Emerson White, and others.)
