How to login

  • Go to http://www.mile.coop.
  • Select Brighton District Library as your home library.
  • Click on the Next button.
  • Enter your 14-digit Brighton District Library card number without the spaces, found on the back of your library card.
  • After typing in the number, click Login.

If you cannot read the barcode or have any difficulties logging in, please contact the Brighton District Library at (810) 229-6571. You will not be able to login if you yave overdue materials or a block on your library record.

How to search for books

After login in, click on the Searching/Requesting button. On the Search Menu screen:

  • Type what you are looking for in the Term vox.
  • Select the button that describes the type of search you want: title, author, subject, ISBN.
  • Catalogs to Search - There are three catalogs to search: MiLE 1 of 2, MiLE 2 of 2, and Health Sciences. If you don't find what you're looking for in the first catalog, redo your search in the second catalog. Larger libraries and shared systems are in both catalogs. Smaller libraries are in only one of the catalogs.
  • Click Begin Searching.
  • Combined Search Results - Scroll down past the list of catalogs that were searched to see your search results. Clicking on the Title will show you the libraries that own the book. MiLE will determine the library to send the request to.
  • Tip: Use the navigations buttons on the far left or at the bottom of the screen. Avoid using the browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) buttons.

How to request books

You can request a book at two different screens:

  • When viewing an individual book just click on the Request button / arrow.
  • When viewing a list of books click on the blue arrow to the left of the title results.

After you click the request button, a Create Request screen will appear:

  • Confirm your name
  • Select Brighton District Library as your pickup location
  • You can change the "need by" date but keep in mind that the item may take up to 10 days to be received at our library.
  • If you need the item quickly, do not type anything in the Notes for Librarian to Review box. A note slows down the request process. You can include a note if necessary, however, it will add several working days to the process.
  • Click Submit Request. You should receive a confirmation screen with a request number.

How to check on my requests

  • Click on the Patron Menu button in the far left column. Select Review Your Requests. All titles you have requested will show up in this list. Status information means the following:
    • Pending - The item is currently being requested from owning libraries.
    • Provisional - The library needs to review your request before sending it through the system. This is usually because you added a note when requesting.
    • Shipped - The owning library has shipped it to our library. Allow 1-2 weeks for transport.
    • Received - Item has been received and is ready for you to pick up.
    • Returned - Item has been returned to owning library.
    • Unfilled - No library could lend the item.
    • Cancelled - Indicates you cancelled the request.

How to cancel a request

  • Click on the Patron Menu button in the far left column.
  • Select Review Your Requests. All titles you have requested will show up in this list. The most recent activity appears at the end of the list.
  • Click on the title you wish to cancel.
  • At the bottom of the page, click on Cancel Request. When asked "Are you sure you want to cancel this request?" click Yes.

How to logout

When you are finished using MiLE, click on the Quit button on the far left side of the screen and close the browser.

Can I renew MiLE books?

MiLE books cannot be renewed.

Is MiLe the fastest way to interloan a book?

The Brighton District Library is a part of The Library Network (TLN) consortium. It is faster and more efficient for you to request a book through TLN than through MiLE. Consequently, MiLE will not fill requests for our members for books that are available through TLN. Always check the TLN catalog first.

Other information

  • You need to have a valid library card at a participating library to request items in MiLE. The MiLE catalog will not allow you to request items if you have any fines on your library card account.
  • Anyone may search the catalog using a library card login of guest.
  • If you keep the item beyond the due date you will be charged whatever fine your library charges for an overdue interlibrary loan item. If you lose the item, you will be responsible for the replacement cost and any processing fees.
  • MiLE’s first year, beginning April 2002. Future plans include connecting MiLE to libraries throughout Michigan and the nation. MiLE’s success depends on its value to you and your family. Let us know how you like it or any other suggestions you may have.
