About the Brighton Marriages Index

Library staff and volunteers are compiling a list of marriage notices published in all of the existing Brighton Argus, the Livingston County Argus-Dispatch, the Livingston County Daily Press and Argus and the Livingston Daily Press & Argus newspapers from 1880 to the present.  Currently the index is complete from 1880 through 1926.

History of the Livingston Daily Press & Argus

The Brighton Argus began publication in 1880. It was published once a week, usually on Wednesday. It retained the Brighton Argus name throughout its history except for the four years immediately following a merger with the Pinckney Dispatch (Oct. 6, 1965 – April 23, 1969) when it was known as the Livingston County Argus – Dispatch. The newspaper regained its original Brighton Argus name in 1969 and was sold in 1976 to the company that eventually became known as HomeTown Communications Network (HCN). HomeTown Communications Network subsequently purchased the Livingston County Press in 1980. In 1997 the two papers became twice-weekly by publishing a joint Sunday edition. On September 7, 2000 the two newspapers completed their merger and began publishing a daily edition entitled the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus.  On January 12, 2015 the paper was renamed the Livingston Daily Press & Argus.
