How to Tansfer an Audiobook to a Portable Device

Create NetLibrary Account (must be in library) | Search for an audiobook | How to 0ownload an Audiobook | How to Transfer an Audiobook to MP3 player | Recommended Players | Audiobook Center Tips | BDLs Audiobook Main Page

Getting Started

  • Your player must run WMA(Windows Media Audio player, version 9 or 10). It is best that the device is listed in the supported devices (see “Recommended Players”)
  • You should be familiar with the device and how it hooks up to the computer and operates
  • Make sure you have downloaded the CD Quality Audiobook to your computer
  • Make sure you have already opened the Audiobook in Windows Media Player 9 or 10 and acquired the license prior to beginning the transfer.
  • If you download at Brighton District Library the license will be installed on the library computer. You will be able to transfer to your MP3 player but will not be able to renew.

Step 1. Attach your portable player to your computer.

Step 2. Open Windows Media Player on your Computer.

Step 3. Copy from Windows Media Player to Portable Device:

If using Windows Media Player 9:

  • Select Copy to Device or CD from the menu on the left side of the screen
  • Use the pulldown menu at the top of the right side of your screen to list all Music
  • Choose your device from the drop down Menu on the right side of the screen.
  • Make sure the box next to the book you want to download is checked
  • Click on the Copy button on the top to the right of your screen

If using Windows Media Player 10:

  • The file will show up on the right side. Right click on the file, select “Add to”, then select “Sync List.”
  • Select “Sync” from the menu at the top of the player.
  • The name of your plugged in device should be in the right panel of the screen.
  • Your audiobook should be in the Sync list on the left panel of the player. Put a check in the checkbox.
  • Click on the “Start Sync” button on the upper left.

If using Windows Media Player 11:

  • Find your downloaded audiobook file and double click it to open it with Windows Media Player 11. Windows Media Player opens and will obtain the license from NetLibrary to allow the eAudiobook file to play.
  • Click the “Sync'“tab (not the drop down menu). The name of the album will be displayed and on the right side, you will see your device listed and if you have additional storage, you will be able to click on "Next Device."
  • Click on “Start Sync” button on the bottom right to start the sync of the Audiobook. Windows Media Player will transfer the file to your portable device.

Do not disconnect device while copying in in process. After copy is done, click on icon in bottom right corner of screen.

Step 4. Time limits: After 3 weeks if you do not renew the book with NetLibrary, the file will not play on your device. The downloadable audiobook file will remain on your device and your computer until you delete it.

Step 5. The downloadable audiobook file will remain on your device and your computer until you delete it.

Taking it on the Road:
To listen to your MP3 player in your car, you will need another device. If you have a cassette player in your car, you can use an audio “car kit.” If not, an FM transmitter will work.
