"Brighton,
Livingston County: founded in 1832 by Maynard Maltby who named
it Ore Creek from the stream which runs through the town and at
that time showed mineral deposits; Wilber Fisher became its first
postmaster on Nov. 5, 1836; by popular approval it was renamed
on Feb. 13, 1838, after Brighton, N.Y. from which area many of
the settlers had come; incorporated as a village in 1867 and as
a city in 1928." (From Michigan Place Names)
