Fine motor skills involve the small muscles of the body that enable such functions as writing, grasping small objects, and fastening clothing.

Your child’s fine motor development is a very important part of their physical skill set. Children need to learn to use their hands competently in order to manipulate toys and to acquire self-help skills such as feeding, dressing, and, later, writing!  Play is a child’s “work” and it is a very important part of physical development. Babies and young children need to have ample opportunity to play.

Here are a few FUN ways to play and develop those skills!

WATER BEADS

The ultimate fun for everyone, even adults. I would also make sure the kind you purchase are: Non-Toxic, Organic, Bio-Degradable and Non-Fade. Some of the makers include Orbeez, MarvelBeads, and Jelly Beadz.

You can get them ready-made as beads or buy the “pearls” and add water to create the beads yourself.

DAUBERS

A dot marker of paint. Children press the tip on paper to start the flow of color. They dab the tip to create dots & doodles. They are called different things like Dab-O-Ink, Dab and Dot, and Bingo Daubers. Great fun!
